Meet Ashley Weigl
Your partner has felt like the only person on the planet who could keep up with your curious and ambitious brain. Now, you’re feeling misunderstood at every turn, and it feels like life has lost its spark. The stakes are high.
I’m Ashley. Like you, I’m a curious, deep thinker and an over-achiever. I do the Wordle in hard mode. I earned two masters degrees at once. I read widely and often, and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m rather selective about my reading choices (less discerning minds might say snobby). I converted my front yard to a 100% native garden last year with perfect fidelity. When I fly, I take it as a personal challenge to never check a bag, no matter how long the trip.
In other words, I do a lot of life in hard mode. Not because I like to punish myself or because of a need for perfectionism, but because it’s interesting and I couldn’t thrive if I wasn’t always learning. I love this about myself, now.
Growing up, I internalized the message that my expectations and standards were too high. Too much. I spent my 20s adjusting myself to meet those lower standards and ignoring my internal compass. I learned the hard way that the relationships formed in this place can’t last.
You both already love and respect each other. Maybe there’s some resentment sometimes. Maybe some unhelpful competition. That can be worked with. What you’re missing is connection and the sense that you’re in it together. That can be rebuilt. I work best with couples who are ready to do this exact work.
Here’s a bit about my formal education and training: I am a licensed social worker with the state of Michigan. I earned a Masters in Social Work and a Masters in Public Health from the University of Michigan. I have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Couples are the only population I work with. I spent many years working in academic research, and I’m a true science nerd. I am so curious about the science of human thriving, and the more I learned, the more I was led back to relationships as the key. The world can be big and dangerous for us vulnerable, fleshy humans, and science reveals that a secure relationship is the only real safe harbor any of us have. The more secure our relationships, the freer we are to engage in the fullest and healthiest expression of ourselves in the world.
And frankly, that’s the only world I want to live in. Full of people who feel so loved that they easily offer their unique version of love to the world. These are as many examples of this as there are people: a poem, a scientific discovery, a loved child, an academic paper, a healed patient, a song, a garden.
I love working with talented, smart couples who are ready to create the relational security that serves as a launching pad to who they’re meant to be.
Fully supported. Fully loved. Fully themselves.
