Frequently Asked Questions

Process and definitions

How does couples therapy work?

First, we will schedule a secure video call with both partners to meet with me. This will last about 25-30 minutes, and it gives you a chance to share more about your experience of the relationship. I can share more about my approach, and you can ask any questions you have of me. Then, if you’re ready, you can schedule your first session on the call. I’ll send you an email with a link to my secure client portal to fill out new client paperwork before the first session.

For both intensives and weekly clients, I will see you as a couple for our first session, and then I will meet with each of you individually for one session. The individual session is an opportunity for me to get to know and build trust with each partner. After that, all of our sessions are together.

What is a couples therapy intensive?

Therapy intensives are 1 or 3 days of couples therapy that can achieve months of progress. They are an efficient and effective way to move a couple out of a stuck place and toward reconnection. You can learn more here.

How long does couples therapy take?

This depends highly on your goals as a couple. When meeting weekly, 4-6 months of sessions is often a good marker to see progress, though some couples will meet their goals in less time and others choose to continue past that time if they are still finding value in the work.

Do you see individual clients?

While I specialize in couples work, emotionally focused therapy is also valuable for individuals. I do occasionally work with individuals who have experienced distress in relationships, and who are longing for more security in their connection with themselves and with others.

Schedule and availability

What days of the week do you offer sessions?

I offer weekly and bi-weekly sessions to clients Monday - Friday, as early as 9 am and as late as 3 pm. While weekly clients are scheduled earlier in the week, intensives are typically offered Wednesday - Friday.

Do you have flexible scheduling? Our hours can be unpredictable.

Many of my clients have unpredictable or inconsistent availability. We will schedule a regular time to meet, with the understanding that we may need to be flexible week to week depending on travel, call schedules, clinic hours, etc. The time we put on the calendar is reserved for you, however, and the expectation is that we will find a time to reschedule sessions with conflicts in order to maintain our progress. I work hard to make myself available for this, and I typically have sufficient availability to reschedule when conflicts arise, particularly with enough notice.

Are you accepting new clients now?

I am accepting new clients now. I have a few openings for new weekly clients as of October 2026, and can typically schedule your first session within 1 week. Intensives more typically book a month or more in advance.

To get started, book a free 25 minute consult right here; there is often an opening for a consult within 1-2 business days.

Payment and Insurance

What is my financial investment for therapy?

Couples therapy sessions are $300 for a 50 minute session, and a 3 day couples therapy intensives is $6,700. A 1 day couples therapy intensive is $2,900.

All of my work utilizes the model of Emotionally Focused Therapy, specifically designed to reconnect couples and restructure their bond.

Do you take insurance?

I do not take insurance. I am an out-of-network provider, and I don’t bill insurance directly, so my services are private pay only. I accept debit/credit cards, HSA and FSA.

Can I use out-of-network benefits?

Your insurance provider can give you more information about potentially being reimbursed for accessing out-of-network care through me. Call the number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  • What is my out-of-network deductible for outpatient mental health care? How much has been met this year?

  • What is my co-insurance once the deductible has been met?

  • Do I need a referral from an in-network provider to see an out of network provider?

  • How do I submit claims for reimbursement?

  • For couples therapy: do you offer reimbursement for CPT code 90847 and diagnostic code Z63.0?
